A clear enquiry gives the engineering team enough information to discuss the measurement scope, site arrangements and deliverables. You do not need to choose the final test method before starting the conversation.
1. Identify the assets
Include asset type, manufacturer, model, rated voltage and quantity. For cables, add circuit length, joint and termination details where available.
2. Explain the reason for testing
State whether the work supports commissioning, a condition survey, an investigation or a monitoring programme.
3. Describe the site and access
Give the country, location, dates, access restrictions and outage windows. Mention existing sensors or connection points.
4. Share relevant records
Provide drawings, earlier reports, maintenance history, alarms and previous PD measurements when available.
5. Define the required output
Agree what the report should record: asset identification, test arrangement, relevant conditions, observations, interpretation, limitations and recommended follow-up.
6. Agree responsibilities and timing
Confirm who coordinates access, isolation, permits, test connections and the relevant equipment.
